Creating and Launching Surveys

Creating and Launching Surveys

When creating a survey, the first thing you will want to do is know whether you are sending your survey to people whom you have contact details for (e.g. name and email address), or whether you are creating a single survey link to share with people whom you don't have their contact information.  You can actually do both, however if you are not uploading the names and contact numbers of people you are surveying, you can ignore all the references to uploading your audience.
Here is a video to watch, or if you prefer to read the instructions are below the video.

General Settings

To create a survey, simply click Surveys from the left menu and then +New Survey in the top right of the screen.  Give your survey a name, and then you are ready to get started.

The settings tab allows you to define survey name, description and tags that will be used later for reporting and analysis. Here are your choices...
  • Anonymous mode
    • Launching a survey with this enabled means you will not be able to identify who answered the survey because reports will only show results when there are more than three answers.
    • This is useful in a situation where you would like open and honest feedback from your recipients and also to protect their identities and allow them to feel safer to provide honest feedback.
  • Anyone with link can respond
    • Launching a survey with this enabled means you can generate and share an 'open link' to record responses. Answers will not be associated with any specific recipient (like they are when your recipients are uploaded).
    • This means you will not know if people have completed the survey more than once. If this is important, we recommend uploading your recipients which means each person will only be able to answer once.
  • Loop survey on completion
    • Enabling this setting will automatically refresh the survey page after 10-15 seconds following the recording of a response. We also refer to this as "kiosk mode".
    • The combination of "Anyone with link can respond" and "Loop survey on completion" enables you to collect opinions using a tablet placed at a specific location. Once the survey has been completed, the survey automatically refreshes for the next person.

Questions and Pages

From this tab you are able to add specific questions to your question library, create a new question "on the fly", add pages to your surveys and instructions for your recipients.
You can use the "Question scratch pad" on the side of the page to re-order your questions. For example, if you have 5 pages of questions and would like to move a question from [Page 2 Position 4] to say [Page 1 Position 3] you can simply pull the question out (by clicking and dragging) into the Scratch pad, scroll the page until your desired position is in view and then pull the question out of the scratch pad (by clicking and dragging) and placing it at the desired position.

Preview

Here you can preview your survey as it has been designed, to see what recipients will see. You should always save your survey in order to see the latest changes when previewing. To preview the email communications, click the share button to send and email and preview how recipients will receive the survey.

Recipients and Destinations

Tandem allows you to upload recipients to send surveys to, which means it is possible to ensure they can only complete the survey once. To upload recipients, click on the Recipients tab from the main menu, and then click the "Add Recipient" button. You will then be asked for the location of the .csv file to upload.

Launch

There are 3 options when launching a survey. One thing to keep in mind is that if a survey is saved with a launch date and launch method specified, it WILL launch and send invitations to respond to your recipients at that time. So perhaps leave the date field empty until you are ready to launch.
  • Delivery Method
    • Email Only
      • We will attempt to deliver your survey invitations via Email only using our email delivery system.
    • SMS Only
      • We will attempt to deliver your survey invitations via SMS only using our SMS delivery system.
    • Email Then SMS
      • In a situation where some of your recipients have email addresses, some have mobile phone numbers, and some have both we will attempt to deliver an invitation via email first, failing the availability of an email address we will try to deliver it by SMS
    • SMS Then Email
      • Same as above but in reverse, we will attempt to send an SMS, if that is unavailable, we will try to send an email.
    • To File
      • When choosing this option your survey will NOT BE DELIVERED to your recipients, instead we will send a CSV file to the email address of the registered tandem admin user, this CSV file will contain your recipient and their unique response link.
      • In this scenario you may wish to send surveys by an alternative means such as printed on paper and by post, printed onto business cards, via Facebook messenger, telegram or other social networks or any other creative use cases you come up with.
  • Launch Date
    • This is the date and time that your survey will launch and communications will be delivered. If you save a survey with a launch date, it will launch on that date so we suggest not selecting a date until you are ready to launch.
  • Expiry Date
    • This is the date and time that your survey will end. Anyone who has yet to respond will receive a message telling them that the survey is over and they can not respond any longer. Responses will not be recorded after a survey has expired.
